Understanding Symptoms of Hypertension

Blood Pressure is a critical factor in any human body system. This is used to maintain and balance the body's system, especially when considering the function of the heart in the cardiovascular system and other systems. If your blood pressure is not regulated at a consistent rate, it results in problems such as high blood pressure. One known effect from this is hypertension, a condition which results from continuous high blood pressure.

Definition of Hypertension

Hypertension is a symptom of high blood pressure and occurs as a reaction from having high blood pressure. Typically, this occurs when the pressure is over the rate of 140 / 90. This means that the blood stream is moving at a faster then normal rate and the pressure is continuing to regulate at a higher then normal average. This causes the heart to work faster and may lead to other complications.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

There are several causes related to high blood pressure, with no specific reason that causes blood pressure to change. Most are attributed to lifestyle habits, such as food intake and exercise levels. Other reasons that may occur include smoking or drinking habits, as well as medications that cause the blood pressure to increase. In women, hypertension is common from birth control pills, pregnancy and menopause, as the hormones signal the blood pressure to change it's frequency. Other diseases may also cause hypertension to be frequent.

Health Complications from Hypertension

If these symptoms are not treated, then there may be complications that occur in the body as it tries to regulate the blood pressure levels. One of the most common difficulties is that the hypertension leads to heart failure. This is from the heart becoming enlarged by the muscle having to work harder then usual. Small bulges may also form in the blood vessels or may become more narrow. A common problem is when the blood vessels become narrow in the kidney, which may lead to kidney failure. Heart attacks, stroke, kidney failure and amputations may also be an end result.

Even though these problems won't occur at once from high blood pressure, it can lead to the health complications over time. To ensure that this doesn't happen, regulating diet and exercise, as well as taking precautions and checking your blood pressure regularly may stop the problems from occurring. It is also important to make sure that you continuously check to ensure your blood is at the right levels so you can continue to stay in good health.
