By a specific age, everyone's skin starts to build blemishes and acne from the skin. This particular problem is one that pops up during any stage of one's life, causing it to alter one's appearance, especially in the face area. Understanding the basics of acne and what you can do to change the problem for clear skin is the beginning to moving back to smooth skin.
What Causes Acne
Acne begins when the skin makes too much oil in one area. The oil that is produced is known as sebum, and is used to help the skin to not be dry. However, if too much of the sebum is produced, it can plug the pores that are in the skin and that allow the skin to naturally breathe. Typically, acne won't do anything to the skin except cause bumps on the skin. If the acne is severe, it may also lead to scaring on the skin.
Types of Acne
There are four main types of acne that forms, each which is based on how the oil plugs up the pores on the skin. The first type is known as Comedo, or whiteheads and blackheads. These are distinguished from other forms of acne because the pore stays under the skin. When the lesion forms, it appears to be black or white because of the type of oil that comes out from under the pore. The second type of acne is known as pustules, also referred to as pimples. These differ from other types of acne because they form pus from the oil and turn a reddish color as a reaction.
The other types of acne that form within the skin are known because of their level of severity. While these are not as common, they can still cause problems with the skin. The first type of acne that is more serious in nature is known as nodules. Typically, these form completely under the skin and can be painful when they are clogging up pores. If they are not treated, they can cause scaring. The second type of acne is a cyst. These also form like nodules, but also build up with pus.
Myth and Truth About Acne
With these basics, are several myths based around acne. For instance, many believe acne is formed because one's face is not washed enough. However, this has been found to be untrue, as more washing can actually cause more acne to form. Others believe that acne is caused because of stress. While this may change the hormone levels that cause acne, it does not lead to the lesions. The last myth many have built is that eating greasy foods, chocolates and other junk foods cause the problem with the skin, also which has been found to be untrue.
Most likely, acne is due to changes that occur in your body, specifically related to hormones. If your hormones change or alter as you grow in age, then acne can easily form. Having problems with pores on your skin breathing properly, such as by wearing a helmet or hat, may also contribute to this. External additions, such as medicines, make-up and adding in extra substances to your skin also contribute to the oil changing it's levels of work on your skin.
If you are suffering from acne, you can easily find a treatment, either over the counter or through a physician. Medications are used for more severe acne, while natural substances and mixtures allow those with mild acne to care for the skin problem. The result is young looking and smooth skin. |
