Introduction to Obesity

The problem of obesity is noted throughout the world because of difficulties with eating habits and nutrition levels. Not only is obesity a problem among many, but also causes difficulties for other nutritional factors, as well as a balance with health. Understanding the different components behind obesity and how it may affect you is the beginning to working towards a healthy balance within your body.

What is Obesity?

Obesity is classified as anyone who is suffering from being overweight. An average of 25 – 30% of individuals suffer from this problem, including children, men and women equally. Obesity is classified as anyone who is not at an average and specific body weight. This relates to the individuals height, age and demographics. It also links to what is known as BMI, or a body mass index. This provides an equation that shows how much fat to muscle is in your body, and is calculated by determining your height, weight and sex. If your weight is above 25% of the normal measurements, then you are considered obese.

The difficulties linked to being obese isn't just from the excess fat and weight, but also is related to nutritional imbalances and problems. Obesity, more then any other type of problem is considered as a disease because of the different health affects it has on your body. For instance, those who are obese are also lowering their life expectancy by an average of 9 years. Diabetes, heart problems, and other life threatening conditions are also attributed to this problem.

Treating Obesity

If you believe you have a problem with excess weight or obesity, then you can easily solve the problem by finding a way to re-balance your health. For instance, beginning to exercise on a regular basis and eating a diet that consists of healthy meals allow you to lose weight and helps you to gain back a normal and healthy state. Finding programs that assist with this and which allow you to work towards a healthy state is considered to move back to a healthy body weight percentage.

Understanding the dangers of obesity, as well as the way to calculate your level of health, is important in determining your weight and staying at a healthy state. Knowing what to look for and how to determine your level of health is the first step to keeping at the right weight. Combining this with a change in your nutritional levels and a balanced lifestyle allows you to continue towards a healthy state.
