We are now living in an image conscious society, where the role of dentistry is wider than before. People understand the need for and benefits of good oral hygiene routines. They also know that you don’t have to be born with a beautiful smile to have one. The high cost of smile makeover or other cosmetic dentistry treatment is also no longer a prohibitive factor with Flexible payment options.
There are various dentists and dental care centers that offer the full range of dental treatments to transform your smile to be healthier, and more aesthetically pleasing. As a patient you would be entitle to a thorough consultation prior to any treatment and you can actively choose which areas they would like to address.
Here are some of the common dental problems and treatments which you may experience. A face to face consultation with your dentist is the best way to decide on these.
Gaps between Teeth
Gaps in your mouth can make eating and speaking difficult and look unsightly. There are a number of options available to restore the gap - we can provide fixed replacements which look natural and are long-lasting.
A very popular method is to cap the two teeth on either side of the gap and have a false tooth in the middle, known as a bridge. This is permanently fixed in your mouth and with modern materials is almost impossible to tell the difference between the caps and normal teeth.
Another option is an implant, which is an artificial whole tooth, consisting of a root and a natural looking replacement tooth. This is placed in the gap where the tooth is missing and will give a very natural result.
With both of these options, you will be able to eat and speak as normal. With maintenance these restorations will last a number of years.
Dental Fillings
Traditionally many of us were given amalgam fillings which are dark and can be unsightly. They also contain mercury (silver chemical element) which has been proven to have side effects. They can easily be replaced with tooth coloured fillings. These are made from a resin - based (compound made of smaller particles) material, and can be moulded to the exact shape of the tooth, and the colour matched to your teeth.
Discoloured Teeth
If you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth, then teeth whitening is the easiest way to improve their colour. A brighter smile gives a more youthful appearance and makes your teeth appear more healthy.
Enlighten ‘deep bleaching’ procedure you can get your teeth whiter than most other products available in the market. It involves a 2 stage procedure, involving home trays for 14 nights followed by a 1 hour laser power whitening session at the dentist. This 2 stage process is highly effective and Enlighten is the only system that guarantees what shade you will achieve.
Dental Veneers
Crooked or twisted teeth can often look unsightly and are difficult to clean. This problem can be solved quite easily by having veneers made. Veneers are hand crafted ultra - thin individual coverings made by a skilled technician. Once bonded to the tooth, the veneer becomes strong, natural looking and is long lasting.
This will give the benefit of making your teeth straight and easier to clean, as well as improving the overall appearance.
It normally takes two visits to complete the treatment with dental veneers. At the initial visit the teeth are minimally prepared and impressions are taken and temporary veneers are made. The veneer would normally cover the front of the tooth; the rest of the tooth is left untouched. On the second visit the permanent veneers are fitted and you can fully enjoy your new smile.
A smile makeover is possible with veneers and generally requires anything from 6 to 10 veneers.
Crowns
Severely broken down teeth can be built up with metal - free crowns making it hard to tell they are artificial. Like veneers these also takes 2 visits and the same basic procedure is followed. Crowns however cover the whole of the tooth and strengthen it.
Unlike the old fashioned metallic crowns this days crowns without metals are more popular, as they create a much better natural looking appearance.
Cosmetic Bonding
Chips or cracks in your teeth can be treated with cosmetic bonding. Tooth - coloured (the colour is matched to your own teeth) material is placed on the tooth, so allowing the dentists to change the shape of the tooth without any drilling.
Invisalign – Invisible Braces
Braces no longer need to be metal and visible, which has stopped many adults taking this option. Clear appliances are available to straighten your teeth.
In Invisalign treatment, a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no one can tell that you are wearing. These are changed periodically as the teeth are moved. The average timescale required to complete this course of treatment is from 6 months to 18 months. |
