Getting on a Food Plan For Diabetes

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, it is important that you not only look at the symptoms and conditions, but also that you find ways to counteract the disease. Because of the nature of diabetes, there are several alternatives you can look into to alter how you feel, the symptoms and results of the disease, and the severity that is associated with diabetes. The best way to begin fighting the disease, is to combat your health with what you eat.

Understanding Diabetes

The basis of diabetes is based on the relationship between the metabolism, pancreas and glucose in the blood sugar. The metabolism is responsible for the digestion of various materials, as well as separating these into various areas of the body. In relation to diabetes, the metabolism divides glucose, a fuel source that is used in the cells of the blood stream. After it sends the glucose into the blood stream, the pancreas has the duty of providing the glucose with insulin. This is a hormone that moves the glucose into the cells so your body has energy. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, it means that insulin is unable to get the glucose from the blood stream and into the proper cells.

Treatment for Diabetes

Because of the nature of diabetes, the easiest way to build a resistance against the symptoms are to have a balanced diet plan that provides extra fuel to the body. The first rule to this is knowing how much to eat. If you eat too much, then your blood glucose levels will go up, which can cause you to get sick. If you don't eat enough, then the glucose levels will go down, which can cause fatigue from the missing amounts of energy you need.

The concept is to keep your blood glucose levels at a balanced level so you don't feel the symptoms of diabetes. More then this, if you don't keep your food levels maintained, it can lead to problems such as heart, foot, kidney or foot problems. To maintain the correct level, you need to make sure your blood glucose level is at 90 – 130 before you eat and less then 180 after a meal. Monitoring this and finding a schedule that keeps your body at a steady level of energy is the simplest way to make sure that there are no complications with diabetes.

If you are monitoring your diet, you want to make sure that you follow specific guidelines. This varies slightly, dependent on your weight, age, gender and height. On average, an individual should eat 1200 – 2500 calories a day. This allows your body to have a balanced amount of energy to burn fuel in the metabolism and to help your food digest. Typically, this should be followed with the right amount of food groups. This includes 2 forms of meat, 2 types of dairy products, 2 pieces of fruit, 3 vegetables and 6 breads or starches.

When you are building your diet, you should always consider higher amounts of starches and breads. This is because it allows your body to have more energy and fuel to burn then other types of products. Adding in potatoes, spaghetti, breads, corn and specific types of vegetables. If you eat some starches with every meal, then you can expect to have higher amounts of energy, as well as more substances for vitamins and minerals that are needed with the body.

Following these basic guidelines for your diet and for the foods that you want to eat also provides you with a simple way to fight diabetes and helps it to maintain at a specific level. From measuring your dietary to habits to finding the right foods to eat, is the capacity to get the best measurements and the right levels of energy for your body.
